Comet Falls

It's been a long time. I know.

Uhhh, I've been busy?

Crappy excuse, but true.  Real life sometimes keeps me from promoting this fantasy idea that all we do is go to amazing places and see amazing things.  But, alas, I still have to shovel out goat poop. I still have a regular job, I still do all the normal things normal people do. This blog hasn't made me independently wealthy.

Sigh.

Today we took a trip though. A good one.

There is a picture that hangs in one of the corridors of the hospital where I work. I have studied on it for quite some time. I finally thought I figured out where it was and today was the day we went to find out. Today's hike was a year in the making.

Today we went to Comet Falls. Sorry for the pictures, I haven't been adventuring with the big camera in a while. Again, real life intervenes.

On to it.

The sign is blurry, I haven't been using the camera

Michael called himself "Gandorf the Mauve."
Shortly after we started, we saw this beautiful spot.

Yeah. I'm still me.

The view looking the other direction off the bridge

Yes, Gandorf had a thing about "You Shall Not Pass!"

Trillium in bloom.

There was some up.

Didn't take long to reach snow. After all, it's only late June.

There were some smaller waterfalls along the way.

Glacier lillies?

The creek was very scenic and we stole views along the way

There were plenty of waterfalls

There was wildlife, like this pika

And this Max.

It's a big landscape

He got tired of waiting to prevent passage.

Nearing the end of the hike.

Our target appears. What a huge place.

300 feet of falling water

Time to refuel
At this point, our guests - Rachel and Chris from It's a Wanderful Life - decided they were done. This worked out pretty well though. Sarah and I continued hiking down toward the waterfall and Rachel was able to take the picture that I wanted.

Can you find me?
Right?

Pretty stinking awesome if you ask me.

I'm petite

I managed to take a few pictures while I was down there. They aren't as cool as Rachel's pictures, but I try.

The path was a little slippery in spots

Pretty though

Then it was time to head back.

Gandorf the Mauve led the way.

He got so far ahead, he stopped to rest.

Not to be outdone... Max.

The hike was a round trip of about 3.6 miles with an elevation gain in the 1200-1300 foot range. We might have to go back later in the season when there is less snow.

Good trip, I recommend it.

Oh yeah, and go check out It's a Wanderful Life. They're pretty cool.

  1. Hi Eric being in Western WA I am always interested in new adventures. This looks like a good one! Thanks. I have recently subscribed to "only in your state" the Washington State version. I am learning a lot and those I find in testing I "pin" to Pinterest

    1. Cool. There are several I really like. Check out Artist's Point and the surrounding hikes. They're pretty good. Then there's Murhut Falls in the Olympics and Ruby Beach and on and on. This place can be so cool.
