9/22/12

Heat sucks.  Towing a heavy 39 foot trailer up the side of mountains in 105 sucks.  Safely landed though.

Sarah went in to the office to check and and remarked to the lady behind the counter, "Man, it's a hot day."  The lady laughed.  Yeah right.  105 here is midwinter weather apparently.  Mark Needles, CA off of the list of potential places to live.

Meanwhile, in Sarah's car.

Ned figured out how to open his travel cage and get out.  Resulting in him jumping onto her foot while she was driving.  Needless to say she pulled over to get him back in the cage.  When it cools down a little bit we may hit the pool.

9/21/12

Driving through LA sucks.

WE got up a little earlier than usual and ended up getting out later than usual.  The first day syndrome.  When you have been set up somewhere for a while there is a creep that settles in.  Things get spread out, things get unpacked.  When you are on the road regularly only necessary things get unpacked.

It took a while to get on the road.  Once there though, everything smoothed out.  Until we hit LA.  At 3 pm.  On a Friday.  Barf. We made it through.  We did have to stop once, we were only driving about 15 mph anyway.  Pulled over to the side of the road and let the kids in the house to go pee.  That is a nice thing about towing your house around.

Pulled in to Desert Willow RV resort in Hesperia, CA as the sun went down and set up largely in the dark.  The new head lamp is the bee's knees.  Great purchase.

Had some minor issues with the truck towing up a grade.  There was a power loss, so we pulled over to the side of the road and I checked the code on the OBD reader.  It was the same code as when the fuel filter clogged last time.  I cleared the code and waited.  It never came back on and the truck went right back to normal.  I'll check everything over in the morning.

I am trying to remember to get the rear window picture here in the morning too.

Good to be on the road again.

9/20/12

That's it.  Another contract in the books.

Spent today fixing some last minute things on the truck and RV to get everything ready for the trip. Also putting out the little fires (figurative fires) that happen throughout the day, like the kids toilet valve sticking open and filling up the ENTIRE black tank and then overflowing.  The motivation for the day was not only the trip, but the promised reward at the end.  All you can eat sushi.  We are on the coast, have to have the sushi right?  Heck, this is California, I think it is a state statute that you have to eat sushi periodically.  We had meant to go to this place twice before but both times had been on a Monday and it was closed on Monday.  So we were going to get our chores done, run some errands and then to the sushi place.

Our neighbor Frank was going to come home from his errands today and help with a fresh water wash down of the RV, but he never made it.  I hope he is OK. Our neighbors here have been cool.  I hope to one day put a post our about Frank, Mr. Fixit and Neal, the most interesting neighbor in the world.  Just not today.

So I get the oil changed on the truck, grease the steering gear, check the tires and pressures on all the vehicles, etc, etc.  Then we head out to the restaurant.

It's closed.  Sign on the door, 'closed, new management.'.

Crap.

So we had fish tacos in Pismo.

Tomorrow we hit the road and drive.  I hope to have better internet access and more to say about less events tomorrow.

What to write...what to write.

It isn't always easy to think of something interesting to write about here.  I'm not that interesting of a person.

Then I also deal with the political issues.  Is what write going to alienate or offend someone who otherwise might either benefit of enjoy other things on the blog?  Will it affect one of the important personal relationships I have with most, if not all, of the readers?  Will it just bore them to tears?  Who knows.

I have a few ideas brewing around in my head that touch upon broader themes, but is that what I am doing here?  Or am I just recording a history of our day to day lives for our kids to one day giggle at?  I just don't know.

Instead, I'll leave you with this.
